Women's HealthDr. Bailey is a Harvard trained expert in a range of conditions that exclusively or primarily affect women. She applies her passion for improving function, fitness and quality of life across the life span to key stages in a woman’s life such as pregnancy, postpartum and menopause. She has worked extensively with the Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments of several of Harvard Medical School’s teaching hospitals to provide their patients with treatments for a wide array of conditions including pelvic and abdominal pain, pelvic floor muscle disorders, back pain and sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome and nerve injuries. The treatment of pain in pregnancy and while breastfeeding requires special considerations. A woman’s body goes through extensive changes during and after pregnancy, yet the medical community gives them very little attention. With specialized care and attention to the ways a woman’s body changes during this stage, we can help women to maintain and recover (and yes EVEN improve) their function during and after pregnancy. During these stages of a woman’s life, the motivation to avoid medications is particularly strong. With her expertise in guiding women’s health physical therapy programs and in providing natural treatments for pain such as acupuncture, Dr. Bailey is particularly suited to treating pain during these critical life stages. Dr. Bailey is also an expert in exercise and physical fitness in pregnancy. As a mother of two, she applies her own experience combined with her medical knowledge to help other women return to full function and fitness after childbearing.
Menopause is another critical time in a woman’s life when there can be dramatic decline in fitness, function and quality of life. There is now a rapidly increasing body of knowledge regarding the effects of hormonal changes on pain. Dr. Bailey has extensive experience translating this research data into clinical treatments that may offer pain relief without hormone supplementation or manipulation. She has been an invited editorial writer in the journal Menopause on issues relating to menopause and physical fitness. |
